My Dad has a mixed bag of news.
Lets start with the bad news actually, so that it makes a little more sense.
The bad news is, is that he has the worst kind of lung cancer other than mesothelioma... Small cell lung cancer.
And there is two stages, he's at stage two... which means that it spread to other parts of his body.
The prognosis is HORRIBLE.
He has a HORRIBLE cancer... which is the oncologist's own words.
A less than 2 % chance of 5 year survival.
And a 70 % chance that it will spread to the brain... 70 out of 100 with this kind of cancer, has it spread to the brain.
Now for the good news.
The good news is, is that he likely beat the cancer.
There is no sign of it anywhere.
Period...
So far.
They are going to do an MRI to make sure its not in the brain.
If its not in the brain, they will give him a low dose of radiation to prevent it from going to the brain.
