I wonder how this happened? This guy has also been a permanent resident of America for 30 years and they are now trying to deport him.

A Canadian citizen died while in custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement earlier this week, the agency says.

Johnny Noviello, 49, died in a detention centre in Florida on Monday, an ICE news release says.

The cause of death is unknown and is under investigation, according to the release.

Despite having Canadian citizenship, Noviello had been in the U.S. since 1988 and became a lawful permanent resident in 1991, the release says.

Did you miss this part?

In 2023, he was convicted of a number of offences — including racketeering and drug trafficking — and had been sentenced to 12 months in prison.

The article indicates he was a convicted criminal with epilepsy. Did they deny him medication?

So THAT is why he was being detained for removal purposes?

If so... IF true... then, the "grab and hold" were righteous.

It's a pity that the fellow died, but the US Federal government notified the Canadian government properly.

It's not like the US Government is hiding anything in this instance... they've been transparent so far... they'll continue to be, I'm sure.

We have no idea how the guy died... could've been a heart attack for all we know... tragic, but quite probably not ICE's fault.

I'm going to wait until the results of the investigation are released before I pass any judgement on the episode.

The Federal government is looking to purge our soil of Illegal Aliens, beginning with criminal offenders, like this guy (reportedly).

The sheer volumes involved make it likely that we're gonna lose a few while in ICE custody... heart attacks and other med-crises.

To make omelettes ya gotta break a few eggs.

Let the large-scale round-ups and deportations continue.

Go Team I.C.E.

He had epilepsy and was subject to seizures.

When someone has health concerns, they owe themselves a higher standard of care. They should keep themselves from situations that would impact their health.
