Canadian ambassador to UN on Trump rhetoric:

‘We deserve to be treated with respect’

4 Feb 2025 ~~ By Lauren Irwin

Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations Bob Rae criticized President Trump over his recent comments and actions regarding Canada, saying the country deserves to be “treated with respect.”
Rae joined Fox News’s Bret Baier for “Special Report” on Monday, just days after the president signed an executive order that imposed a 25 percent tariff on Canada. Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau later came to an agreement to hold the tariffs for a month, but the trade war and its impact on the countries has caused much concern across the country.

Trump’s order also impacts Mexico and China. The president has defended the tariffs as a means to encourage U.S. trading partners to help stop the flow of migrants and fentanyl across the southern and northern borders.
In remarks from the Oval Office on Monday, Trump doubled down on his proposal that Canada join the United States as the 51st state of the U.S. The comment has drawn sharp criticism from Canadian officials, who state the country is sovereign and has no plans to merge with the U.S.

We’re not the 51st state. We’re a sovereign, independent country,” Rae said. “Our leader deserves to be treated with respect and we deserve to be treated with respect, and that’s the way we want to proceed

Commentary:
No one has impugned the the sovereignty of Canada. What Trump has proposed is a unification of the people of Canada with the people of the USA making both more formidable.
Just think Canadians would have voting rights in America and more freedom under the U.S. Constitution than the British Monarchy.
Shouldn't there be a plebiscite to ask the people of Canada if they want to join the United States and be one country? We know that the Canadian Gov't doesn't want it. Ask the people?

Trump continues to make a fool of himself by bringing up this Canada as a 51st state nonsense.

If is a joke, the joke is worn out.

If he is serious, he needs to see a psychiatrist and retake the Montreal Cognitive Assessment Test. That test would be apropos here.

Yes we do.

So do Canadians who are supposedly protected by a Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The last 30 years + of my life they treated me as the cowards in East Germany did.

They control our healthcare, our freedom, judges, doctors, employers, HR departments, your intimate relations. No one in America has the slightest clue about how much some of us have suffered with absolutely ZERO recourse. It's beyond creepy, beyond any system of cowards I would have expected to be living under.

Canadians reject talent and ambition, they destroy the helpless and vulnerable because they are too cowardly to reign in the abusers. To me that is the worst kind of system. The cowardice in Ontario alone is enough to collapse the nations economy.

Trump is going to hit aluminum and steel with 25% tariffs now from what I am reading,

I hope canadians and mexicans are currently working on getting rid of their tariffs and bans on American goods.

Those 25% tariffs wont be delayed a 2nd time!

Trudeau was thrown out on his ass because Canadians aren't shown respect

by their very own libtards.

Tell them to start paying their fair share of NATO
Tell them to stop relying on our military to protect them

Alberta is putting up a drug task force to try and stop the flow of drugs.

Ottawa full of Liberal idiots

Trudeau had the bank accounts of truckers frozen and tried to steal their fuel simply because they honked. No, Canada does not deserve respect.
