If still in uniform, using commercial software instead of authorized communications and sharing classified operational information with people that have no security clearances to have ongoing classified operational information, would see him charged, disciplined, all clearances revoked, and most likely booted out, under Uniform Code of Military Justice. It is just as illegal at his level, and just plain stupid.

The mission was a success only because the reporter, who had an absolute right to publish the signal intel as it was happening, instead kept all of it under wraps until well after the raid was over.

Yes it would take a separate criminal trial.
But remember an important aspect of impeachment. It precludes those being impeached from receiving a presidential pardon.
