We do a lot of portable mobile X rays

The only protection is we stand 6-7 feet back

Usually in the same room or in the hall but we have no walls to hide behind

If you forgot about the lead vests you better seek a different vocation.

No... the amount of radiation that you could ever be in contact with by mistake at a single time with an X-ray is less than what you would get walking outside in the sunshine...
Now in an MRI room you do have to be very careful...
