Can a person work past age 80? Discuss.

I've a few years to go, but I'm in reasonably good health. Maybe I'll get there.

not aware of any law against it,,

other than that it would be a case by case basis,,

my mom is 86 and still runs the family company with no problem,,

You have to define the word "can"? Some 80's still run a tractor and help in large scale farming. Some 80's work in Walmart store. Some 80's are in nursing homes.

I'm assuming this is being asked due to the recent concept of "people are living longer so they can work longer".

Well if that is the case just remember, yes we are living longer but that doesn't mean our youth is being extended, what's being extended is the time were old, weak, with aches and pains, and our less acute brains.

People still physically and mentally begin to weaken a lot in the mid 60s. That hasn't changed at all. So why should we expect them to have to work longer?

Until a couple years ago, that was true. Seems US life expectancy has declined in the past couple years from 77.1 to 76.
