Actually Media helps a lot of Americans to stay ignorant. In Soviet times Americans used to make fun of Russians living behind the Iron Curtain. Now Western Media has built its own Iron Curtain for the Western audience, so a lot of them don't have any clue about who's behind the events, going on in the world, and who are the good and bad guys in reality, not in their alleged parallel world (of course, in a parallel world Hillary is a Queen and ISIS is contained).

There is one huge advantage to that: ignorant people are much easier subjects for manipulation.
