The founder and president of a coalition of black pastors has called upon U.S. Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan to recuse themselves from the same-sex marriage case that is currently before the high court. In a recent press release, Rev. William Owens of the Coalition of African-American Pastors (CAAP) cited Ginsburg’s and Kagan’s “stated bias” as reason to recuse themselves in order to preserve the integrity of the court. Owens and his organization have launched a petition to bring attention to the alleged “lack of impartiality” on the part of the two justices. In February, Ginsburg,...

Every SCOTUS justice who has performed marriages can have a "bias" by that standard. Doesn't wash.

Eight have clear indications about the case. They all should recuse themselves?

They are welcome to their opinion.

I am sure that as Justices usually do- they will ignore them.

If they can't be impartial on either side yes. If we have an entire SCOTUS that cannot be impartial we need new justices that will follow the law instead of their formed opinion.

They have indicated a predisposition in a case before them and should recuse themselves.
Their minds were made up years ago. That's the same for anyone with common sense, and you would lose either way. 7-2 or 5-2 makes no difference. It's a formality. They already ruled by letting the lower court rulings stand, until one court went the wrong way.

Agreed, but this is an unrealistic goal. About the only thing we could do is limit SCOTUS appointments to staggered 20 year terms so that each President would get to nominate two justices every four years. This would minimize the chances of "packing" the Court through accident or design.

The principle of unlimited life terms is to keep the popular opinions of the far reactionary right from having major effect on judicial decisions.
