I am for basic envrionmental protections. But the environmentalists of today are really just advocates of socialism.

(CBS) President Bush dismissed on Tuesday a report put out by his administration warning that human activities are behind climate change that is having significant effects on the environment.

The report released by the Environmental Protection Agency was a surprising endorsement of what many scientists and weather experts have long argued — that human activities such as oil refining, power plants and automobile emissions are important causes of global warming.

But it suggests nothing beyond voluntary action by industry for dealing with the so-called "greenhouse" gases, the program Bush advocated in rejecting a treaty negotiated in Kyoto, Japan, in 1997 calling for mandatory reduction of those gases by industrial nations.

"I read the report put out by the bureaucracy," Mr. Bush said dismissively when asked about the EPA report, adding that he still opposes the Kyoto treaty.

The report was the first by the Bush administration to mostly blame human activity for global warming.

"The changes observed over the last several decades are likely mostly due to human activities, but we cannot rule out that some significant part of these changes is also a reflection of natural variability," the report says.

The report also says that despite some lingering scientific uncertainties, "There is general agreement that the observed warming is real and has been particularly strong within the past 20 years."

Kalee Kreider, global warming campaign director for the National Environmental Trust, an advocacy group, said environmentalists want from the administration a climate change plan that joins with other nations in requiring carbon dioxide emission reductions and increased fuel efficiency requirements for vehicles.

"It's good they've done a 180-degree turn on the science. Given the audience, they pretty much had to," Kreider said. "But we're still waiting for a plan that mandates pollution cuts."

The White House had previously said there was not enough scientific evidence to blame industrial emissions for global warming.

Do you realize the disaster that will occur if Global warming continues at its current pace? According to the models, and their is pleanty of evidence in the Ant-Arctic to support this, ocean levels are rising and will continue to do so at an increasing rate. Within 50 years the levels could easily rise 5-10 feet, wiping out large portions of most of our cities and most of the major cities of W. Europe.

Even you have to admit that when the President appoints the leading lobbiests for the Coal, Oil, Chemical, Asbestos, and Hog farming industries as the department heads of the EPA, we, the American people are going to get screwed.

One sometimes gets the impression that this administration believes that how it runs the government is its business and no one else's. It is certainly not the business of Congress. And if it's not the business of the people's representatives, it's certainly no business of yours or mine.

But this is a dangerous condition for any representative democracy to find itself in. The tight control of information, as well as the dissemination of misleading information and outright falsehoods, conjures up a disturbing image of a very different kind of society.

Democracies are not well-run nor long-preserved with secrecy and lies.

Classic use of mis-information to create pure crap. Here's what Dr. Sami Solanki, who is the source of info for your supposed "proof" has to say:

“The change in solar brightness over the past 20 years is not enough to cause the observed changes in our climate. But the indirect effects may be larger, and the range of their influence is unclear, so more study is needed,” he added.

“All in all, I think we are coming to a point where we acknowledge that both solar activity and greenhouse gases are important factors in the change in the Earth’s temperature,” he said.

If you look into it a little, all the existing evidence is that solar changes only accounts for perhaps about 12% of the noted global warming phenomena, probably less.

And if you noticed, I never emphasized the global warming arguments in my posts about Bush's anti-enviromental policies.

Bush's attack on clean air, clean water, clean land, and preservation of fragile ecologies are the emphisis of my comments in this thread. All things that will have dire consequences on the American people within a decade. Global warming is more of a 50-100 year concern.
