I'm not too surprised at this, it is disappointing but we live in strange times. Biden could have waited until the sentencing and then if there was a custodial sentence commute that, shorten it and then provide the same broad pardon to his son.

That way his son would be safe from Trump's looming weaponization of the FBI and DOJ yet would still pay some price for his crimes.

Lets also not forget this please from four years ago, Trump pardoned a family member too:
