Breaking...Lois Lerner Held In Contempt Of Congress

She waived those rights when she made her big I'm innocent but...speech. And she won't be prosecuted for taking the fifth she will be prosecuted for why she had to plead the 5th.

Are you telling me that when one is being 'interviewed' by the police or any such authority, that they can't claim their innocence and then 'plead the Fifth' ?

Have you ever heard of this line? "You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law".

She didn't remain silent or stick to asserting the 5th, she chose to speak and opened the doors to more questioning.

Congress are not investigating detectives. They are charged with writing laws not enforcing them.

If that is true why do we have congressional hearings? Why do we have congressional investigations?

Because WE look the other way as the ones we hire abuse their power.

Again I say, if she is guilty of a crime, charge her & try her.

We complain about the excessive power our government exerts but look the other way if that power is used against the opposition. That is no better than what the IRS has done.

Just a week ago we were discussing congress withholding Holders pay. This week we're giddy as school children at the thought of them punishing Lerner.

Where does it stop? When do we actually put congress in check? When the dems take power?

Come on people

The Dems have the power, they have the executive and judicial branches all tied up, and half of Congress, the Senate. We all know this is useless, as both AG Holder won't appoint a special prosecutor, and the AG of Washington D.C. is an Obuma appointee, and he won't prosecute her. The soul purpose is to show just how corrupt this administration is, and to shine the light on the illegal and corrupt practices, as well as they can.

You can't arrest anyone without investigating the facts and that's what Goudy will be doing. He's an experienced Federal prosecuter with 6 years behind him, and a record of never having lost a case. I suggest we just let it play out and see where the chips fall, after all is said and done.

As much as I absolutely despise that ***** I can't approve of this move.
We hold baseball players in contempt, presidents and just about anyone else who is deemed a miscreant. Thing is over half of congress fit this description.

Our government already has too much damn power over our lives. Now they're getting in the habit of punishing everyday Americans.

If that ***** did something wrong charge her criminally and stop wasting my god damn tax dollars on stupid shit.

Congress IS NOT the long arm of the law and they need to stop acting like it.

Now before all you conservatives get on the hate grampa train let me state that I think that **** is up to her eyeballs in illegal activities but congress is not the place to deal with it. Charge her, jail her & try her. But stop wasting my ******* money on pointless servings of red meat for my consumption. I already know the fix was in for conservatives so I don't need some stupid ******* politician to put on a ******* parade to get my support.
Sorry, Grampa. But who is going to charge her and jail her? Eric Holder's Justice Dept? We've seen how they handle investigations started by Congress. There is no justice in the Justice Dept.
It falls to Congress to exert authority where the executive branch has demonstrated malfeasance.

Face it folks. Lois Lerner is a criminal. I hope she rats on everyone involved including those responsible in the Whitehouse.

So..you already have her convicted....How RW of you.

Just like you had George Zimmerman convicted before he ever went to trial, you hypocritical POS.

Easy peasy, lie to them.

There are other ways to get one for your mantle:

Contempt of Congress is the act of obstructing the work of the United States Congress or one of its committees. Historically, the bribery of a senator or representative was considered contempt of Congress. In modern times, contempt of Congress has generally applied to the refusal to comply with a subpoena issued by a Congressional committee or subcommittee—usually seeking to compel either testimony or the production of documents.
It seems some people think this Lerner chick is being held in contempt for lying. But how can you lie when you refuse to testify? Hmmmmm...

Yeah, it's funny to see all of the 'Constitutionalists' who act like they are such big advocates of "The Constitution!" , suddenly want to disregard the Fifth Amendment when it comes to Ms Lerner. What a bunch of partisan HYPOCRITES! :)

Ha! You call US hypocrites?

She made 17 separate responses to questioning before pleading the fifth. A prepared statement counts as testimony, and thus invalidated her right to plead the 5th. Yes, I know law doesn't come easy to some folks, but this was downright obvious. She began with "I did nothing wrong." In the court of law, that is testimony my friend. No two ways around it. The 5th Amendment cannot protect her, and now she will pay for her treachery.

Politics mostly. :D

"The potential for legal jeopardy for her from even her most truthful and accurate testimony under these circumstances is very real."
From her attorney

Nothing will happen to her.
The case now goes to a US Attorney who was appointed by King Barack, and who works for Eric Holder.
Holder will instruct him to find "no cause for action" and it will drop.
Holder will again refuse to name a Special Council to investigate the IRS. Why? Because using the IRS to go after political enemies is a wonderful way to keep the King in power.

Weren't you swearing up and down in another thread that there was no way she could be held in contempt?
Oops.

Why should there be legal jeopardy for her if she did nothing wrong? What is she hiding?

You lie. I never said she could not be held in contempt.

I said if it ever saw a judge, she would be found not guilty.

I've never doubted the political maneuverings of congress, and that's what the Contempt vote was: political theater.

What was Monica Goodling hiding?

Don't let the low information radical left claim that it's a 5th Amendment issue. When Ms Lerner defended herself against the charges in the first hearing it nullified her attempt to hide behind the 5th Amendment.

A witness can invoke the 5th Amendment any time. There is no time limit, there is no exclusion unless offered immunity in a grand jury.

Guess what?

She may not make a blanket statement of innocence, and then refuse to defend her assertions. You're simply wrong. As usual.

She made that statement in her opening remarks. She was not then being questioned.

When she was questioned, then she invoked the 5th. She's fine.

However, if the DA as a result of a grand jury investigation grants her immunity, then she must testify.

So far that has not happened.

That is not how it works.
