Okay, a couple of issues here.
First, an attack on the family would usually result in a talk with the mods.
Secondly, China "officially" allows Protestantism and Catholicism, so she wasn't in violation of the law. In practice, they regularly arrest ministers, confiscate Bibles, and round up people who attend services they disapprove of.
Third, - wait for it - China imprisons less people than the US does, despite being "Communist" and having five times as many people as we do.
Fourth, asylum is not limited to politics. We also offer asylum to people who are oppressed for their religion.
Fifth, the only reason she got a tourist visa was because she has family here.
Now, all that said, perhaps if we had our stuff together, they'd have called bullshit on her claim seven years ago and we'd have never met.
So I guess I should be happy that Trump screwed up the system so badly.
