BREAKING: Columbia anti-Israel protester Mahmoud Khalil can be deported, judge rules

Ah. No worries.

But aside from the memo, lawyers and litigants normally don't post evidence publicly for fear of unfairly influencing a potential jury.

That's what I get out of it.
This isn’t and will never be a jury trial as I understand it…it isn’t a criminal case but an immigration case.

It has a high likelyhood of being a criminal trial depending on where this goes, IE, what the evidence shows.

Trials sometimes have a habit of metamorphosing before our very eyes.

I don’t think so…he is contesting the revocation of his green card and now also requesting asylum, it’s all immigration related.

Like I said. I'm making suppositions here, due to the lack of presented evidence so far. It can easily be a trial related to both if tried in the correct venue and jurisdiction.

I’m not sure how it could become a jury trial?

Either way, the government should support its case and provide evidence to the defendant’s team right? You can’t just I’m arresting you and not provide any evidence for the charges.

If I were a judge (and I'm not), I would rebuke the government for not meeting the burden of proof. I would cite them in contempt for refusing to present me the evidence I requested.

I would summarily rule in favor of Khalil as it stands right now. I would not take being impeded very well, no matter who it was. Trump or not.

Right now as I see it, the case is in limbo. So nothing significant, save the charges, have been done.

This needs to be properly litigated and tried.
Is he here on a visa or a green card? If it’s the former, a crime isn’t necessary. If the U.S. government determines his presence is a danger to American citizens or undermines American policy, the invitation can be revoked.

In this case, U.S. policy is to ramp down on the violent antisemitism that has been unleashed as a result of people spewing HAMAS propaganda, and the resulting violence on Jews. This goes beyond “free speech.”

I continued to be alarmed by the tolerance for antisemitism coming from Left, and that there is more concern for a foreign Muslim inciting more hatred against Jews than there is for the Jewish lives at risk as a result of that.

And still…you have yet to show what what Hamas supporting propaganda he has “spewed”.

Until I know what Khalil did or said to warrant his treatment, I can't make a judgment.

You would be well served not to make hasty judgments.

When any student calls for revolution or intifada, they deserve to be expelled. You don't get to call for armed uprisings and expect to keep your visa or anything you've earned at that school. When your words lead to the mistreatment of another ethnic group, or in the case of that couple in DC, murder, your rights to say those words should be curtailed and you severely punished under maximum penalty of law.

Free speech has limits, very far outer limits, but limits nonetheless. Sentiment spreads like a contagion, and when it reaches one unable to withstand the urge to act on it, you see what happens in DC.

He was never charged with anything. Rubio even said he committed no crimes. Even the corrupt and lying Trump administration couldn't claim he did anything illegal. You can absolutely make a judgement. Even that POS Trump who incited the Jan 6 riots, has not claimed that Khalil called for a revolution, like you're doing now lol.

You would do well not to speak for me, if you please.

It's not until it incites violence.

When you start demanding revolution and "intifada," you are acting to incite violence. Intifadas and revolutions are equated with armed uprisings.

And I'm perfectly fine with police targeting and arresting anyone that holds a "death to all jews" sign. But that's not what is going on here. The Trump administration wants to stop all dissent. That's fascism. That violates the first amendment. Gee, I wonder what happened to all the so called strict constitution absolutists here. Where are the "free speech absolutists," like Elon claims he is.

That goes twice for foreign students here on visa's,
As an example, Its like being invited to a home of a friend and defecating in their living room. You'd expect to be thrown out and never invited there again.

Here is one link, an article, which, to summarize states that tbe only “evidence” is a statement from Rubio saying something to the effect that Khalid’s statements go against US foreign policy priorities.

Now that is broad and vague. If you agree with it, then you are essentially agreeing that any criticism of Israel’s conduct in this war is deportable.

Immigrants are the low hanging fruit (or the canary in the coal mine to use another common term)…they don’t have the strength of rights that citizens do. It is easy to drum up vague and subjective reasons to deport them.

But this guy has a green card, that means he went through a rigorous process to get it. So who is next?

Actual US born citizens have already been deported or sent to detention centers under the guise of Trump's immigration policy.

As unfortunate and disgusting as that is, hate speech isn't illegal in this country. Some idiots are always going to show up to a protest. What happened to there are very fine people on both sides? Another thing to note is that the Trump administration has never accused Mahmoud, the most infamous person to come out from all this,of hate speech, when they have zero problems lying any chance they get.

So because Hamas committed a terrorist act, that means that's an excuse for the genocide of ALL Palestinians? The nazis would have absolutely adored you Lisa. So many of you out yourselves on here every day. lol
Three is no geneocide against all Palestinians

Not sure what hate speech has to do with this
