This is a very interesting look at 1975, as seen through the movies Hollywod was making. The documentary (narrated by Jodie Foster, who I thought did a great job) looks at the relationship Hollywood movies had with what was actually happening in society. This was the rise of the disaster movie, loss of trust in government, Blaxploitation, the blockbuster, women's rights, and a war between "old Hollywood" (John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, and others) pushing back to some of these films (most notably Hearts and Minds at the Academy Awards that year, which won). There were confrontations backstage. That documentary I have seen and very much recommend.
While this documentary pays some attention to Nixon and Ford, in the final 20 minutes it focuses on the rise of Reagan, who left as Governor of California in 1975 with great ambition, and how he created a culture that ushered in an era of patriotism and love of country that ignored most of what 1975 was exploring. I have not seen most of the movies that are featured, although I'm now interested in a few of them.
Jaws ushered in an era of the blockbuster, and the era of independent films would soon end, with corporate America reclaiming Hollywood.
