Do you understand the concept of having to leave those gates open without anyone there to make sure people don't cross the border illegally?
Do you understand the concept of time? Those gates will have to be open for months.
Lol, yes, I do understand obstacles and their purpose. It was an assigned duty I had in the 4/4 th brigade in 1979 in Germany.
The objectives of an obstacle are to slow the target and funnel the flow into areas of your choosing.
When I was in the infantry, this was intended to give us slower targets with better exposure for us to shoot them and to funnel them into kill zones with pre-plotted artillery/mortar coordinates.
In the case of the border, we slow the infiltrators, silhouette them for clear sighting, delay them long enough for BP to respond and catch them before they can get away, and funnel them into an area that has slower progress, like thick mud or deep sand.
The idea behind obstacles is NOT to totally stop the intruder 100% with ZERO oversight and response.
It just gives the people responsible for that zone more time to respond and to clearly identify the target.
In some countries they just bulldoze a long ridge of dirt about 20 feet high so they can see where the infiltrators came through then track them.
As I said, you apparently do not grasp the point of a wall or other obstacle system.
