Grateful Dead legend Bob Weir dies at age 78 surrounded by family after cancer battle

He was a trooper and toured until quit recently

I was never a Deadhead but liked quite a few of their songs

I think he was the singer on Touch of Grey, Ripple and Playing in the Band and my absolute favorite Sugar Magnolia

Cleanest best live sound I've ever heard was at DEAD concerts. Bob Weir singing songs also very likeable.

American Beauty album was a masterpiece, but live was best.

Sadly, much like Zappa, I turned down every chance I had to see them perform live

Saw him too. Small venue in Eugene ORE. Weird and funny at times. I had a date, hottest chick ever! Blonde. No idea why she said yes. With me? I had to behave. She sat there stunned. A Guy came running down the isle and threw a mannequin on the stage. Frank stopped playing and chastised the guy. Seemed like a setup? In the 80s' doubt you could bring that in?

Watch out where the huskies go and don't you eat that yellow snow.

Saw DEAD on Halloween mid90s? at OAKLAND Coliseum? The first concert after Garcia got out of rehab, mid-90s? Non-stop music for 3 hours?

Hey, I think I saw you at the country fair out in Veneta one year.

I think I would have enjoyed Zappa, but I never saw him either.
In high school a friend who was really into Zappa gave me Uncle Meat to take home over the weekend. It was titanic and intimidating. I came away with the bizarre notion that I lacked the musical ears to really appreciate Zappa.

Almost the same with the Dead

Apparently was Jazz rock? Weird.

Dead on album not the same. Agree. But, American Beutay grew on me. So many good songs.

IDK, I saw Ten Years After in a CA ice rink in the 70s. We were searched coming in and after we found where we wanted to view, we looked around and there was a kid, about 12 yrs. old, sitting on the plywood covered ice right next to us on TWO CASES OF BEER. LOL, I don't know how his dad got it in, but he gave us a couple.

I saw them at Winterland about that same time. It had to be the strangest pairing of bands I had ever seen. It was the Charlie Danials Band, King Crimson and Ten Years After.

Alvin Lee. Fast guitar. Saw them as a kid in STL at Keil. I'm going home!

It turned into a riot of some sort at the end. Cops with Billy clubs raised running on the exit ramps outside the concert area. Of course doped up.
