pets are so much fun and enjoyment until they get to that age like people when they just can't function or worse
I just had a rescue last month die on me

lovely stripes! it looks like a happy cat who had a very long and good life

Oldest cat I've ever had was 19 yrs.
My current one is the oldest I've ever had.
Cat lived to about 21-22, though. They're kinda similar, but cat loved me more.
I can't even pet this one's head. Cat would come in the house and sleep with me. Not this one.

my barn rescue black and white tuxedo was over 18ish and a flame point my parents had when I was just 4 or so lived to 18-19.

he was alive a few years after I graduated high school and I want to say college too

As I was just a young kid sure I pulled his tail more than once but did not mind, mellow boy, never hissed or scratched me that I can recall

basically like another brother growing up

calico? looks close to the one I just lost

not to pry but you did not mention any reason

12 is fairly young for a male, females generally 14ish only and it always seems to be kidney related, both of mine had that issue

my parents almost 19 year old flame point actually had a stroke so he was pretty much out of it when he was taken in, semi-coma for the most part so no suffering

my mom's favorite cat ever for many reasons

He came down sick just before Christmas when my wife got sick. I was thinking he was suffering because she was in the hospital. Turns out she had cancer and so did Bob.
My wife died Jan 19th. I got Bob back from the vet a few days later.
3 weeks ago he started losing weight. Vet said he lost half of his weight in 2 months.
I could see he was miserable. Staggering. Didn't even get up to go outside anymore.

I figured the time had come.

I was petting him when the vet put him under.
RIP Bob, and thank you for letting him go.

wow that sucks, I feel for you, my dad died of bone cancer 7 years ago on St pats and my calico missy died about 1 hour before midnight or they would have been on the same day
I will just call it the 17 and I won't forget it ever

Somebody with many cats and I've known vets I am going to surmise feline leukemia was the root cause

sucks either way, too young to go and sadly nothing we can really do about it

Bob had cancer in his large intestine.
Not sure what caused it. Might have been poison from the pest control guy.

It no be long for the old girl. She's failing. :(
Barely walk from her hiding spot to molest daddy to pet her to eat, and then she don't eat. :(
She's been good. Looks like her hips are hurting these days.

oh wow, did he go outdoors? shame you can't prove it even though doubt they compensate you and that's not even the point, you lost a pet
sharp on the vet to even find that, I was not aware they could.

with kidney failure there are signs you can know

I have limited time with my little 7 pound tika, she lost her sister last year about the same size so it's just a matter of time at 15

that will leave me with only 2 male cats, down from 6 unless I go to the HS and try to find a young but not too young male cat for my younger one to play around with.

sometimes introducing a male cat to an established place does not work well at all, I don't want him to get beat up but both my cats now are not exactly fighters or mean at all so it might be OK

Kinda like to have a kitten again, that will give my boy a run for his money and keep him active and entertained

My vet took an ex-ray of his insides in Dec and showed me how it was swollen and prone to obstructions.

So he had a couple of good months and one really bad one.

Now Bob's in Heaven with my wife.

I keep mine indoors, wife loves birds and I have a big feeder and a finch one too, yellow canaries here all summer and hummingbirds
I let teeger out on my upper deck to smell the breeze and get fresh air, he likes to jump on the railing and walk around my roof but that's as far as he can get
