I fully agree with that assessment. There indeed is an egotistical, pathologically selfish and murderous aspect to the wanton killing of these rare creatures, most of whom are gradually being displaced and eliminated by humans as it is.
They kill for the love of killing and there is no other conceivable reason for doing it. There is no way to justify this ugly, malicious activity.
