A few attempted a third term, but none were successful until former President Franklin Roosevelt won four terms amid the crises of the Great Depression and World War II.
Trump is 78. He'll be 82 when he leaves office. He would be 86 by the end of a third term. I see signs that Trump has lost some of the edginess he had back in 2015-16, he could lose a lot more. Trump already has his plate full trying to reinvent government without worrying about trying to repeal the 22nd Amendment. Even if the argument could be made that our times are a close parallel to the crisis of the Depression and WWII. Especially as he is only a month into his new term.
Democrats are already in a panic, now Trump is feeding them just what they need--- they've maintained for a long time that Trump never wants to leave office. And what does he expect people to say when the topic of a third term is brought up? For them to all tell Trump to sit down and shut up?
At least give it a year, end the wars, heal the Middle East, make all of N. America part of the USA, bring China to its knees, fire half the Fed, put the other half in jail and save the world from an asteroid hit first THEN decide if you want to run again.
The one troubling aspect I've noted in Trump's new term is that no one in his cabinet is no longer working for America, they are working for TRUMP. At every meeting, Trump is central to the credits. Mind you, Trump probably deserves the credit, still, I've noted that Trump never moves far from center stage and whoever is up there speaking spends at least as much time talking about Trump and thanking him, as they do talking about the country and their proposed work.
And I've gotten sick of hearing everytime Trump speaks about how there never would have been a Ukraine War had he been in office. Not that I don't believe Trump, not that I don't agree, just that I've heard him point that out about 22 times now.
Before Trump starts staking out his next great triumph, I think he ought to spend more than a month in office and finish the MONUMENTAL tasks he has already undertaken first. Reinvent the wheel first, Donald, bring our debt back down to 9 trillion like where it was when Obumma found it in 2009, bring prices back down to 2020 levels, then you might have some talking room to speak of holding yet a THIRD term in office.
Do all that, and you'd get my vote for a third time.
