More black crazies.

A grassroots student group interrupted University of Kansas’ chancellor at a Town Hall meeting on diversity Wednesday, listing 15 demands to a packed auditorium and overflow room of about 1,000 students, faculty, staff and top-level administrators.

KU joins a growing list of colleges struggling to confront their racial climates in the wake of University of Missouri System president Tim Wolfe’s resignation Wednesday evening.

The university had organized the Town Hall, moderated by Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little, in response to protests at the University of Missouri and Yale University, and it was an emotional event featuring testimony about the way blacks are treated on campus — and that was even before the protesters took over the stage.

“Today’s only purpose is to silence and appease students,” said student leader Katherine Rainey as at least 12 students joined those on the stage. The group, named Rock Chalk Invisible Hawk (#RockChalkInvisibleHawk) held signs including ones that read “Black Lives Matter.”

“I just don’t understand why now would be the time (for change). It’s just what’s happening in the national news,” said a frustrated senior Cornelius Baker, about the Town Hall, noting the issues being discussed at KU are hardly new.

“The intention behind it wasn’t necessarily to help the students because there have been plenty of other opportunities to do that beforehand.”
