jan 28 2025 The homeless man who allegedly shoved a woman into the path of a moving Manhattan train made a chilling confession — telling cops, “I did it because I wanted to,” a court heard Tuesday.

Markeese Brazelis, 26, brazenly admitted to tossing the 23-year-old victim into an incoming A train at the 168th Street station shortly after he was arrested for the savage Monday morning attack, prosecutors said at his Manhattan Criminal Court arraignment.

“I pushed her into the train because I was high and I was mad,'” Brazelis told cops, according to Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Jessica Berman.

I am not sure it isn't a risk everywhere with subway cars. I lived in DC and NYC and used theirs regularly. Even before people started doing it purposefully, I recognized that this is actually a dangerous set up. I pretty much always was the last person on. I wasn't risking my life getting up to the edge of the platform just to make sure I got a seat by the door.

I am a lifelong DC resident with extended Family in NYC so I too am familiar with both Subways. I agree for all of the risks you sited that could occur accidentally. That said, up until last year, I never thought we’d have to worry about senseless animals with no regard for human life pushing random innocents onto train tracks.

Granted I saw the risk mostly as accidental but there were some not quite mentally right people in DC too. I would tell people especially with kids who seemed to be first timers what the lights meant and to step back when they started flashing just to be safe. I got uncomfortably close to being pushed off that edge a few times early on. Also lots of weirdness happened especially in Metro Center when I worked the Senate side of the Hill. Total tangent, but I got tossed like a sack of potatoes there by MTPD when I was beebopping along enjoying what until then had been a great day and they just piled on the guy who was in front of me and were beating the stuffings out of him. I found out later on the news that he was a mental case who had just randomly murdered someone earlier in the day.
