However, according to mathematical models, according to the western dead dino and plant theory, we should have run out of the stuff and supply should have been drastically dwindling at a geometrically decreasing rate as of 2012-13. The price for gas at the pump should be $20-50 a gallon by now.

Not sure why there cannot several ways in which what we think of as petroleum is formed.

Obviously it can occur naturally, but it might also be supplemented by decayed life forms returning their carbon strings to Nature as well.
