Bill: No Funding for Discrimination

Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA) introduced legislation Tuesday that would restrict federal funds for states that allow for discrimination in adoption or foster care placement based on the sexual orientation, marital status, or gender identity. H.R. 1681, known as the Every Child Deserves a Family Act (ECDFA), currently has 39 co-sponsors in the House. The Washington Blade reports that Sen. Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY) “is expected to introduce companion legislation in the Senate in June.” Thus far however, it appears that President Obama has been unwilling to fully endorse the bill.

So this as being sold as a bill to help children?

Who does Stark think he's fooling? Making discrimination in adoptions illegal is as idiotic as making it illegal for people to discriminate about who they marry. Adoption does not exist for the benefit of homosexuals or single people. It exists for the benefit of the child. If adoption agencies believe homosexuals provide an unhealthy environment for children, the government has no place second guessing their decision.

Now wait a minute. Is not the matter of legal guardianship not something that the government must necessarily be involved in?

If a kid is turned over to the government, THEN I do think the government has the right to discriminate in who it gives the kid to. Along with police, fire, military, roads........protecting abandoned children is among the few gov't functions I believe in.

And yes, I don't think placing a kid in the home of two flamers is necessarily good for it. That kid will encounter issues down the road from peers, at minimum, and be confused as shit at worst.
