I think most people in his circle see a different side of him than the public portrayal the media reports on. (For the record, I don't trust the media, whose job is turn the volume up to 10 on every story). Listen to Maher describe his experience, it was, on a personal level, a positive one. Trump was not the person he thought he'd find when he spoke with him.

The problem with this thinking is that Trump isn't your bestie. He's supposed to be the President...of everyone...not just the Alt-Right. Trump is first and foremost, a showman. Born and raised in a media driven culture. He knows how to spin and charm. Words are superfluous. They can be fabricated. Actions speak louder. And in Trump's case, he is a self-aggrandizing grifter. Someone who has surrounded himself with a clan of fascists running a playbook from the early 1930's in an attempt to return this country to a misty-eyed era that lives mainly in the nostalgic minds of his supporters. Not in any sort of evolved reality. His supporters can't see that the man is just out to line his own pockets and those pockets of his wealthy friends.

I understand why Maher (and Jon Stewart) are trying to strike a conciliatory tone. They just want the madness to stop. Maher just wants to smoke his pot. Stewart sometimes rails against the cottage industry of political humor that he himself helped create. :)
But the bottom line is that there is no reasoning with Trump or his supporters. That ship has sailed. If Maher is expecting Trump to have some great revelation and a come to Jesus moment.....I hate to be the one to break the news to him that he and his supporters are beyond reason.

Why should anyone care what that comedian thinks?

I think some on the left, maybe including you based on my reading this, confuses "reasoning" with agreeing with. I think it's important to realize that Trump supporters simply don't agree with the ideas and hopes of the left. Trump and his supporters want and support a different path than the left wants and supports.

I understand that may leave you feeling like there is no reasoning with Trump or with Trump supporters, because I'm sure you feel like your desired path is the right path. I think the revelation you are discussing won't ever happen because Trump doesn't see things like you do or like you might wish he did.

"President...of everyone"

Funny how some of you think Republicans have to stick to some standard of conduct while you ignore your side being as nasty towards those they consider opposition.

"These are the kind of guys you'd like to smack in the ass." Joe Biden

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion" Barrack Obama

I enjoyed watching this video. I think it speaks to the authenticity of Trump. The public gets to see that too. Trump simply doesn't/can't "act". He is who he is and never pretends or tries to be something else.

Trump likes people and likes engaging with people. He likes talking to people, he likes negotiating with people, and he even likes listening to people. He's extremely social.

This second term, Trump is also really calm. That's different from his first term. He's older, politically experienced this time, and extremely motivated since he understands it's his last opportunity at this.

Hate and mean-spiritedness is all your ilk have.

Not at all. If Maher wants to grovel to try to grow his audience to what, 20 people, that's fine and all.

Most of the rest of us are realizing that a huge mistake happened in November.... Just look at your 401K if you have any questions.

Meh, my portfolio looks just fine, all minor losses were recovered and then some.

If you invested "poorly" then whose fault is that?

And? Again, these are words. Actions speak louder. I don't remember Obama or even Biden directly going after their political enemies to try and destroy them. I remember people trying to hold Trump accountable for his (in)actions on 1/6/2021. And in a normal world, you and I would see that day for what it was. An attempt to overthrow the government of the United States and an overt attempt to shred our Constitution. But for some reason, the man stirs an almost deity like response in his supporters. He literally cannot do anything wrong in your eyes. This is why I call him your Savior. :)

I hate to say it, but Maher is speaking about you.

You are, however, correct in what you say. It's paradoxical to hold your views and yet try and cooperate with someone like Trump, but the divide sometimes has to be crossed. Being conciliatory is not an admission of defeat, it is just something that is sometimes necessary. How can we expect our government to work when neither side is willing to work with the other? The same thinking applies here.

Because he has a track record of being right about things. I've watched him for well over a decade, his views are spot on.

He will never be a Trump supporter.

No, he'll always be a smarmy, self-righteous prick.

I stopped caring about most of what he has to say when he praised the "bravery" of the 9/11 terrorists and the cowardice of US Service members for firing missiles from a distance.

Seriously, **** that guy.

Maher has shown how a man grovels for his dinner.
No, that's not it at all. You have to know Maher and what his beliefs are in order to understand what he is saying here.

You have to know it is Maher who has repeatedly called for Democrats to go on FOX News (most are too scared to) and it is Maher who has preached about the need for Americans to listen to the other side.

Maher has always spoke about the need for people with opposite views to SPEAK to one another, not hurl insults from inside the bubble.

It's based on experience. Speaking with dozens of Trump supporters over the last decade, including two very good friends who I thought were pretty level-headed politically. It's almost like appeasement. The problem with appeasement is the aggressor will always take more, no matter how much you concede. At some point, you have to draw a line in the sand and say that this is a divide we can't cross over.

We don't work together because Trump has made it virtually impossible. Any Republican who dares cross him is crucified. He has cucked all Republicans. Therefore, common sense is out the window. And it makes it easier for the cucks to bow.

Maher seemed to have jumped the shark the night he trotted out the theory that Senator John Fetterman was the future of the Democratic party. I was literally waiting for the Bahzinga! :auiqs.jpg::auiqs.jpg:Again, he wants the Rodney King scenario..."can't we all just get along?"....uh, that ship has sailed.
