Where does the middle class come from?
Is it a natural product of capitalism, or is it created by society?

New Deal policies built middle class

"Those New Deal policies were responsible for creating the greatest middle class the world has ever known. That middle class that Roosevelt’s New Deal created remained strong through the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s."
It's a natural part of capitalism....during the Reagan years we saw the most the creation of the "upper middle class" = more people moved from middle to upper class. It was quite remarkable

The Reagan expansion years marked a period of economic progress for middle class Americans. Middle class income increased 11 percent after adjustment for inflation, while nearly 20 million new jobs were created

The percentage of households in the low income category dropped during the 1980s. This group comprised 27.5 percent of all households in 1980, 28.5 percent in 1982, and only 25.3 percent by 1989. As a share of all households, the proportion of those with low incomes became less prominent by the end of the 1980s. Meanwhile, the percentage of households with incomes over $50,000 jumped from 17.6 percent in 1980 and 1982, to 23.5 percent in 1989. This remarkable increase in the proportion of high income households is another sign of solid income growth.

I hate to post this but FDR created the 35 hour work week.
The Robber Barons were working people to death.
The Rs, starting with Reagan, brought back the Professional Work Day to work people to death.
I lived it.

what's the "Professional Work Day?" I certainly work more then 40 hours a week myself...frankly if you want to get ahead in life, you might have to.

Reagan didn't undo the Fair Labor Standards Act, taht is still the law.

MNCs do not give a shit about the FLSA.
The entity lies that a product is ready for release but has to be modified for the buyer.
The lowly employees are then forced to work 80+ hours, 7 days a week to get everything done from scratch within 3 months.
The deadline is missed by 1 hour and we’re all told we’re lucky to still have a job.

During the 80s, nobody was paid over 50K.
I still know people in IT who live this bullshit and they look like shit.

How did Reagan's war on unions affect the middle class?

It's unfortunate no one knew about this information sooner...like years sooner -- if the previous admin has this info, they could have prosecuted him...

But at least the House GOP will get to the bottom of it when they impeach Biden....but impeachment isn't enough -- for this level of corruption, he has to go to prison...anyone in public office receiving money from foreign governments needs to to prison...unless they hate the same people I hate.

Middle class incomes shrank during Reagan's reign because a larger percentage of formerly middle class earners saw a decrease in income over those years.

Middle Class "Shrinking" Upward The graph below shows the percentage of all households in low, middle, and high income categories. During economic decline, household income tends to fall, while during economic progress, household incomes tend to increase. The 1982-89 expansion conforms to the expected pattern of income growth during an economic upturn.

Notice how the strong upward mobility has affected the middle category. This group comprised 55 percent of all households in 1980, 53.8 percent in 1982, and 51.1 percent by 1989. In this one sense, the middle class did indeed shrink during the 1980s.
If the middle class shrinkage had resulted from massive income losses resulting in expansion of the low income group, it would clearly signal that something was seriously wrong. However, a review of the data shows that the reverse was happening. Income gains were pushing a greater proportion of middle class households into the high income category. Of the 4 percentage point reduction in the middle class percentage between 1980 and 1989, all of it is accounted for by net upward movement into the high income category.

Incomes grew....we saw the development of the UPPER Middle Class during the Reagan years, people actually moved from one class, to an entirely new more wealthy class

Middle class incomes shrank during Reagan's reign

Liar.

In tax year 1985, for example, he said the top 1 percent gained a $350,000 windfall while the typical household received $3,500, and the poor received a couple of hundred dollars (all in today’s dollars).

LOL!

Didn't read your own link. Typical.
