Best stand up comedians of all time.

I think Chris Rock is better than Pryor. Carlin is pretty hilarious still though.

Rock has his moments, but stands on the shoulders of Pryor while doing so.

I think Chris Rock is better than Pryor. ...

That's like saying Eddie Van Halen is 'better' than Jimi Hendrix sort of.

He was
Wrong.

Hendrix>Van Halen

Eddie Van Halen dominated the guitar and is still alive at 64. Hendrix had a 4 year career and drowned in his own puke.

And was a force of nature. In 4 years he established a legendary mark so high that people are still comparing every other guitarist to him.

He did okay playing covers of Bob Dylan and Frances Scott Key, but is otherwise little more than myth.

In my book there are 2 truly great ones and then everyone else.

Richard Pryor could say more with his expressions than most people
can with words.

And George Carlin was just a genius.
  • "Inside every cynical person, there is a disappointed idealist."

I grew up listening to Pryor and Carlin.

Pryor was hilarious.

George Carlin was an absolute genius. And fearless.

Every year he threw out all his old material and started from scratch. And his line "You ever notice that the women protesting abortions are women you wouldn't wanna fuck anyway?" was one most comedians would either build up to or not say at all. Carlin opened his act with that line at Carnegie Hall.

Carlin also had the privilege of being handcuffed to Lennie Bruce when they were both arrested at a nightclub. Bruce for obscenity and Carlin because he was underage.

To say I am a fan is an understatement.

My favorites

George Carlin
Rodney Dangerfield
Bill Cosby
Chris Rock
Robin Williams
Ah, you have to add Tim Conway and Red Skeleton.

I thought Tim Conway was better at sketch comedy
I loved Red Skelton when I was a kid, but today I find his stuff more walk on the sides of your shoes and shove straws up your nose. A Milton Berle kind of comic

I loved both as a kid, and it was impossible for Harvy Corman to keep a straight face in his presence.

Dave Chappelle is better than Eddie Murphy and in Eddie's day, he was better than Chris Rock. But Chris Rock is great. Richard Pryor is okay but he was never as funny as Eddie Murphy was in Raw or Delirious. Kevin Hart is funny. IDK if JB Smoove is a great standup but he's funny as fuck! I love funny black guys. Probably my favorites. Oh Bernie Mack I miss you.

Carlin was magnificent. But have you ever heard his early stuff? Sucked. Watch him on Mary Tyler Moore Show. It wasn't his fault the censors back then didn't allow anything cutting edge. Elvis from the waste down was too much for them back then.

Sam Kinison would have me crying.

Louis CK

I think I grew up in the golden age of comedy. There are so many comedians from the 80's and 90's who were great. Like Robert Schimmel. So many I can't remember. I thought they'd be on the list of 50 greatest but they weren't even on the list.

So sorry if I missed any really funny people. Notice no women come to mind on my list? Women aren't funny. LOL. Maybe Joan Rivers, and a few others. But I just googled it and the list I saw, they all suck. Wanda Sykes is okay but not even close to Kevin Hart. Sorry ladies, ya just not funny.

But I'm sure I missed a bunch of names you can convince me should have made my list. But the guys above made me cry laughing. I'm sure I missed some others. But like, has Jerry Seinfeld ever made me cry laughing? I don't think so. But Hart has. Eddie has. Chappelle has. Who else?

Jay Leno had a good and pleasant demeanor, but he could never tell a joke. He'd say the punchline and then he'd repeat it. Even when the audience was laughing, he felt the need to say it again. Never knew why someone didn't tell him that.

But he made it big and here I am typing on a two bit forum, so that shows you what I know. :(

Jay Leno pays for all his fancy cars with his stand up money. Not the Tonight Show money, his stand up. Apparently he does open mic all the time working on his routine.

I don't love or hate Jay. All I can say is Stand Up Comedian is the hardest thing to do in all of entertainment. Let's see Merril Streep or George Clooney get up on stage and be funny. They can't. I can't. It's not easy. But we can all get up and act sad or happy. We can all sing too. Maybe not well but we can at least sing.

I can't even memorize and repeat a comedians act and make it funny. It's that damn hard. So I give Jay a lot of credit for being able to do it. Even though he's lame and I think he's kind of a dick too.

A lot of people can go do karaoke well. NO ONE can go mimic their favorite comedian on stage. If you could, you would probably be a stand up comic.
