none of my time on the beach was a vacation.

One of these days I would love to visit Hawaii ... it is just so expensive that I never have.

That I know. Look for somewhere in Waimanalo, inexpensive and clean. Last time we went to Pearl Harbor and the Pacific Air Museum. The Bishop Museum is nice as well.

Been to beaches all over the world.

What makes a great beach is the quality of the sand and the solitude of it in relation to access of amenities.

It's a fine equation.

Ft. Pickens National Wildlife Reserve in Pensacola is my favorite.

Silky, snow white sand. Free of condos, panhandlers, beggars, and trinket/food mongers. The fact you have to pay $25 per car keeps the 'poors' and the blacks out, for the most part. Which I think is key here.

However, just a couple miles up the road is Pensacola Beach.

Few places are like that in my experience. Asia, US and Europe are either too built up (Hawaii, South Florida) or are packed with tourists, locals, beggars (Asia, Africa, California) or mongers (Asia, Africa, Europe).

Mexico/Carribean) is either all-inclusive or hangin with the poors.
Don't get me wrong though, I love me some Mexican all-inclusive.

I'm not a beach person, but Waikiki is the best I've experienced. Siesta Key claims to be the best but as far as I'm concerned, if you don't have breakers, it ain't a beach.

We were vacationing ai Waikiki and went exploring. I don’t recall its name, and couldn’t spell it if I did. Oahu’s east shore about halfway between the Marine base and the movie ranch.
