He is not interested in actually helping people, He cant skim the pot if the money does not first come to him for distribution, and, he cant appear to be king if any money is distributed by any means other than his own hand. People have to see that he is their only hope at free things and help, If people learn that its real Americans donating to the churches, then they might not be as excited when it comes to bernie.
the other thing to remember is that if that dollar is stolen from you in the form of tax then redistributed, that dollar can not be claimed on your returns as a donation. If it first goes to the church as a donation, you get to claim it, so not only does Bernie lose the dollar to redistribute, he loses a dollars worth of taxes due to the deduction for charity. That dollar you give the church is actually going to cost bernie 1.20+ when it comes to his actual revenue to be redistributed

well more people would contribute to him if he created his own christian organization and actually provided services.
