About 0745 the smoke alarms went off.

I saw smoke as I headed up from the basement into the kitchen and saw my kitchen range was on fire!

I grabbed the fire extinguisher and put it out.

Evidently the wife had moved the air fryer that was sitting (unplugged) on the range top and in the process accidently turned on the burner and it went from there.

Thank goodness I had an extinguisher close at hand....Close call.

After it was out I went to turn off the range circuit breaker but it was already kicked-off.

I called the VFD and they came by, checked everything out, put a couple of exhaust fans to work, and wrote a report for the insurance company.

Right much smoke damage and I'll need a new range and range hood. Possibly cabinetry. Stinks to high heaven.

LOL....What added insult to injury was it melted a container of red pepper flakes above it so it was like getting maced!

Holy shit, that could have ended up much worse if no one was home.

As long as everyone is OK and you can get back online and post at USMB, that is all that matters. ;)

Well, I have to wait for the adjuster so I might as well do something. ;)

The VFD guys said not to do any cleaning till the adjuster does their thing.

Sigh, it did put the kabash on my Tuesday gun shop run.

I have one of those glass-top ranges myself.

I have to remind myself not to put anything flammable on it, even when the burners are off.

Yikes! That's a bummer, man. Glad you caught it when you did.

Two things I keep handy in the kitchen are a fire extinguisher in a can, and a fire blanket. If that extinguisher doesn't do the job, then I have five dry fire extinguishers around the house, and one large one that has water under pressure. You can find them pretty cheap at garage sales...

Oh yeah.

I figure once the adjuster gets here and does their thing I can get shed of the range and start cleaning everything up so it does not stink so damn bad.....I got the whole house opened up.
Yea air it out those fumes are probably carcinogenic.

It reminds us all, have a fire extinguisher in your house. I have one in my garage that is for electrical and gas fires, it is not for wood, and I have a garden hose nearby that I could use as well. I don't have one in the house though and will try to remember to pick one up.

I understand how burning pepper can make you choke and gag. When I'm making Mexican food at home, I use three different kinds of dried peppers to make the salsas. I used to toast them in a cast iron skillet with some olive oil. But the fumes were so toxic I couldn't see through the tears. Now I just boil them in water, along with the onions, garlic, and tomatoes, and throw them in the blender with some salt, vinegar, and cumin.

Yea, I found a recipe for pan frying tuna patties, and while they were delicious, do not make these! The stench after cooking lingered for a few days and pushed through a couple electric air fresheners I was forced to buy for the kitchen.

I am sorry to see this. My wife is always leaving things on on the stove. Gets me nervous as hell.

Wow. The house that I am in now has been my home since late May of 1997. The house was new when my mom and me got it. The original stove is what we have still. How long did this one go for you?

God bless you and my mom always!!!

Holly (a girl who is glad that you are safe)

I think we got it around 2000 or so. I never really cared for it that much to be honest. I doubt I'll get another glass-topped range.
