Wow, Our Kenyan Emperor has worn out all the presidential jets and is buying new ones!

But, looky-loo, He's buying AMERICAN!

Local News The News Tribune

Rather, YOU'RE buying American for Him. Boeing jets - 747's - which are built in the company's tightly unionized Washington State facility. From the linked article comes the blue text below. Any not blue is commentary so quit whining.

"The Boeing 747-8 is the only aircraft manufactured in the United States when fully missionized meets the necessary capabilities established to execute the presidential support mission, while reflecting the office of the president of the United States of America consistent with the national public interest," James (Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James) said.

The Air Force was looking for a four-engine, large capacity aircraft. The only other such aircraft in production is the Airbus A-380, built in France by the European planemaker.

The move is surprising since the A-380 is a whole lot bigger with ample room for not just OKE but also for his spouse. There was no word on whether these Presidential Jumbos will have custom jumbo doors to accommodate America's First Cow but the point MAY be moot because of the expected delivery date, see below. Still, would it not pay to have it done while they're being built rather than having to have them modified should the Royal Couple decide to stick around a bit?

The 747-8-based presidential planes will replace presidential aircraft based on Boeing’s 747-200 plane. The first of those two presidential planes, designated “Air Force One” when the chief executive is aboard, was delivered in 1990. Both planes are due for replacement because of their age and the need to adopt modern electronics and powerplants in the presidential planes. The Air Force reportedly will order three of the new planes which will be delivered beginning in 2018.

Up to now two (2, libs) of the monster jets were enough but for this "president" the order will be for three (3, libs).

In a galaxy far far away...
At these prices I like to hear the reasoning behind expanding the fleet from two to three birds.
