"Back to the center, Democrats"

Democrats need to stop being nice and become aggressive progressives.

Here's a good example of a (probably innocent) messaging faux pas. You might be too young to have carried away lessons from the Cold War but for many in the Western World, the past aggressiveness of progressives carries a negative connotation that will not sway voters to your side.

The right is very aggressive. They never comprise on their ideology and policies. Which is why they have a supportive base. Democrats have failed their base which I am now an independent. They've done nothing to help the help the base.

Now's your chance, loud and clear. Use your head and reject the regressives who have taken over the party. Written by two Democrats:

The path back to power for the Democratic Party today, as it was in the 1990s, is unquestionably to move to the center and reject the siren calls of the Left, whose policies and ideas have weakened the party.

The last few years of the Obama administration and the 2016 primary season once again created a rush to the Left. Identity politics, class warfare, and big government all made comebacks. Candidates inspired by Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Elizabeth Warren and a host of well-funded groups have embraced sharply leftist ideas. But the results at the voting booth have been anything but positive: Democrats lost over 1,000 legislative seats across the country and control of both houses of Congress during the Obama years. And in special elections for Congress this year, they failed to take back any seats held by Republicans.

Central to the Democrats' diminishment has been has been their loss of support among working class voters.... (who) saw the party being mired too often in political correctness, transgender bathroom issues and policies offering more help to undocumented immigrants than to the heartland.

Marginalize the people who have pushed so many Americans away.
.
Yes, but Trump won working class voters by promising to make their healthcare better and cheaper. Imo Obama won a mandate for that in 2008, and failed to come through ... not that the dems didn't try, and today's GOP is struggling to find some balance between the Norquist wing (fuck you workers) and the governors who expanded Medicaid.

And DeVos's desire to end govt support for middle class college educations is another gong that needs to be banged repeatedly

But you're spot on about social issues. the gays don't need the Dems help on this. They got the bible bangers by the shorthairs.

I understand that - election are about choices, though, and the Democrats (especially rank and file Democrats) had little excuse for losing this. Just being a little less repellent could go a long way. My guess is that most Americans associate everyday liberals and conservatives - stuff they see and live with every day - with their voting patterns, not DC politicians.

when you say "the right", who exactly are you talking about? If you are talking guys like Cruz & Rand Paul, I guess I can go with this. But if you are talking about Ryan & McConnell, not even close...

All your cold war brainwashing did is to make a false association between progressives and communist nut jobs.

I'm not the one who is brainwashed. I lived the Cold War and had the honor of interacting with many defectors from "progressive" dictatorships.

Just can't help insulting those who have different perspectives. That's how you got Trump. Insult away. You don't know me or anything about me. You have no facts so you have to make it personal and insult me. That worked great in 2016. Keep it up.

There was SO MUCH brainwashing during the cold war for the purpose turning American working class against liberalism it was amazing.

The entire purpose of the cold war was to brainwash Americans.

We lost both the Korean and Vietnamese wars purposely - to create a core of fanatically anti-communist working class Americans. Then all it took was for massive amount of propaganda to associate liberalism with communism.

If you don't think that you've been brainwashed (and brainwashed people never do), just consider your association of Che Guevara with progressivism:

Progressives consider John Lennon to be the epitome of Progressivism.

John Lennon was:
1. An individualist
2. The epitome of exceptionalism
3. A super capitalist
4. A person with a huge sense of social responsibility.
5. Believed in law and order.
6. Believed in individual liberty
7. Non-violent and anti-militant

Che Guevara was:
1. An extreme collectivist.
2. Anti-exceptionalism
3. An extreme communist
4. Believed in destroying society.
5. A terrorist.
6. Was against individual liberty.
7. Extremely violent and an extreme militant.

If John Lennon and Che Guevara had met, Guevara would have shot Lennon.

Yet, you've been brainwashed into believing that people who espouse the same beliefs as John Lennon also espouse the beliefs of Che Guevara.

Sorry but I don't think Americans will fall for the left's lies a 2nd time. In 2008 all those "moderate" Dem's who ran as center right conservatives? Yeah as soon as they got to Washington they voted in lock step with the progressive liberals who control the Dem party. The American people got so pissed off they obliterated the Democratic party in 2010, those "moderate" Dem's lost over 50 seats in the House due to stabbing their districts in the back. So long as liberals control the Dem party it cannot be trusted.

Want to get this voter back? I know an easy place to start.

Oh boo fucking hoo...if you make all your decisions based on who calls names and acting like a sissy. This reasoning is akin to what gang members and cultists use. "Those people don't understand you but we do"

It's working! Wow. With every insult, I feel this overwhelming urge to join the Democrat party.

BTW, brainwashing requires a subject to be in a closed, controlled environment. Your fantasy definition does not count outside of your imagination.

Wow. Flabbergasted. Revisionist much?

It's rare that a political opponent will make your case for you but there you have it. Elitist projection and ridicule. Just makes me want to become a Democrat.

Absolutely. A less personally repellant candidate than Hillary (with Bill's sexual baggage and her own covering for him and selling access to the Dept of State, and the email secrecy thing) who just ran on extending Obamacare's beginnings to secure affordable healthcare for all workers and preventing tax cuts for Norquist and promoting security without an army in the ME probably beats Trump handily. Just leave the social wedge issues and focus on policy. People don't need help in seeing Donald's a pig.

But, that doesn't mean the Trump base doesn't exist. Even I noticed that the Trump base has real policy issues with the economic policies of both parties. Still independent moves from one party or another tend to be assimilated by the parties: the Dixiecrats and the Perot folks for example.

I dont know how much further to the center you can get than hillary clinton? Do you think the democrats should nominate Jeb Bush?

Hillary and Bill were both two of the most center we have had in a long time. Problem was, corruption and obstruction of justice. If the Democrats go Liz Warren, that will be a step back towards Obama's hard core Left.

I couldn't care less if you joined the Democratic party.

Perhaps you've lived in a closed, controlled environment without ever realizing it.

Truth is revisionism to those who've been brainwashed.

And, I'm really not trying to insult you. I'm just saying that you've been indoctrinated to a bunch of lies. I grew up in the same country, during the same cold war, but I knew then that a huge part of what we we told were lies. The more information I've had access to, the more knowledgeable gained, the more I've realized that we were lied to over and over again.

Hillary Clinton was only part of the problem. The bigger problem is the behaviors and tactics of everyday, street level, rank and file "progressives" who have turned off so many Americans.
.

Hitelry is a centrist?

On what fucking planet?

Bernie was a better candidate and he's a bong water drinking commie moonbat. Except he is far more honest and worthy of respect than hitlery. The dems don't need a "centrist" anyway. They need someone who isn't a criminally insane totalitarian sociopath. Which pretty much excludes the whole party except Bernie.

The fact is there are no "centrists" as far as I can see. Who is this "maverick" on the dem side who is reviled as a DINO because they are Pro-2nd Amendment, pro-life, or for a balanced budget? Who is that democrook who "reaches across the isle" and "compromises"? How many democrooks come out when a leftist does or says something despicable and condemns the "inflammatory rhetoric"?

Back to the center, Democrats

they will have to form a new party

the locusts has trashed this one

Just one more thing - so that you take this in perspective:

When America was born, it was born on a set of principals. The founding Fathers were incredible philosophers.

The birth of America was the beginning of the end of the old world order and the beginning of the new world order.

Many people HATED the new AMERICAN world order.

When America got drawn into the cold war, Americans all but forgot about the new American principals that founded this nation.

Instead they got drawn into a VERY old world view of world conflict - class warfare, the rich vs. the poor, the owners vs. the workers, capitalism vs. communism.

Americans believed that to be American meant being pro-capitalist and anti-communist.

Yet, never once in the Constitution or the other founding documents were the words 'Capitalism' or 'Communism' or 'Socialism'.

This pro-capitalist sentiment benefited those who opposed the new American world order. Americans forgot what it means to be American, and instead we became the strong arm of the old world order.

That was what the cold war was all about.
