Nor is it pertinent that the black child born in 1860 had far less chance of being mugged, knifed, or murdered in the streets than does a child born into the projects in America today and was far less likely to grow up with the mentality that such is the way of life. Wouldn't that factor into having a discussion on why the condition for so many black children is deplorable today? It seems to me a useles exercise to continue to trash Michelle Bachmann with dishonest accusations and to trash conservatives with a different point of view. How does that help those black children?

We have poured six trillion dollars into the war on poverty and we can point to a few successes. To far more negative consequences however. That Pledge was pointing to one of the unintended negative consequences of prior policy that has decimated families, most particularly black families, and has led to whole generations of kids who sit on the floor to eat their dinners so that a stray bullet is less likely to hit them. Who are afraid to walk in their own neighborhoods for fear of their own neighbors. Who have never experienced a loving father. Who are consigned to rat infested projects and likely permanent unemployment.

If pouring more money into the problem was the answer we would see better results don't you think?

Perhaps a truly compassionate liberal might want to step back and acknowledge that the programs and efforts so far aren't working too well. And maybe the conservatives are on to something?

Wanting policy that works is not uncompassionate. Wanting to continue policy that isn't working well is not compassion.
