B1-B Crash a While Ago Had a Crew Member Who Weighed 260 Pounds

Hard to believe they let anyone on a B1-B that weighed 260#.

Pilot and aircrew positions in the Air Force have their own requirements.

For example, all pilot candidates must meet the following:

1. Be no less than 64 inches short, and 77 inches tall when standing.
2. Be 34 – 40 inches tall when sitting.
3. Weigh no less than 160 lbs. and
no more than 231.

How the hell do they get in the plane? Through the bomb bay?

Weighing 260lbs does not automatically mean one is fat.

They’d have to be mighty tall.
Or built like a tank. Muscles weighs a lot.
6’2” is tall and 230 ain’t 260.
Odds are the 260 is a fat person.
How tall was the pilot? 260 may be fat, or a tall, solid person. Bottom line is that they did not follow their own guidelines. It comes down to, it should not matter if you are a tub of lard or a brick shithouse. If you are over the height and/or weight, you don't fly.

A person that size would barely fit in a Martin Baker ejection seat. Combat aircraft aren't built for comfort.

They don't cater to large people. The Rock couldn't fit in the cockpit of an F-16, he's physically too large.

So what was that person doing in that aircraft? There is a fitness issue in the armed forces. We can argue about relaxing standards to accommodate an increasingly out of shape population. But the AF has a standard. And they violated it.

What makes you think that the military never had fat people in their ranks?

On bombers? With ejection seats that have an Air Force max-weight of 245 (higher than manufacturer recommend)?

Bye.
