btw, from what you just posted, I take it that you're a son of the South, as I am... with much of the same baggage...

and, btw, I've taken folks in my family to task for their negative attitudes towards black people... and, as a result, am permanently on the outs with many of them...

In our family it never went quite that far. We were all very respectful if not outright afraid of my Dad. I was still very young when I was around my uncles. When it would come up everybody either kept quiet or walked away. I dearly loved my sister's husband. He was a very nice man in every way except the racial thing. He was from Rockmart, GA. He died with multiple myeloma about five years ago. When the old folks die off most of it will disappear.
