I just added up how much I have. I'm 53 and I have $650K in total assets. Condo $150K and $500K in $. If I keep working till I'm 59 I MIGHT reach $1 million. 7 years if i save $40K a year that's $300K added to the $500K. So I will come close. And I'm single, no kids, no debt, no mortgage. Just the basic bills like a lease car, car insurance, condo dues. The one luxury I pay for is my pontoon boat. Boats are expensive.
I don't know how the rest of you do it. If you only make $65K a year or if you make what I make and have kids, how do you do it? Perhaps you started saving when you were young and never stopped. I had a rough 8 years during the Bush years. Manufacturing took a huge hit on his watch. He sent 750,000 good paying jobs overseas and caused a global recession.
Anyways, how are all of you doing as far as being a millionaire in your 50's?
P.S. My dad is going to leave my brother and I $800K. So add $400K to what I will have someday. I hope he lives a long healthy life because I don't need it but I hope he doesn't have to go into an expensive home that's going to eat up that $800K. Inheritance is an important part of wealth. Most people today have parents who don't have shit. In fact they'll probably have to move in with you in order to stay retired.
