The democrats before the Clintons were OK and even preferable to many of the establishment republicans of the time. They were just boring and had no charisma, but they had good ideas. Then came the Clintons who started the push to get the establishment to switch parties from the GOP to the democrats in return for massive favors, like repealing Glass Steagall and giving them the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
