Australia Sees Spike in Gun Crime Despite Outright Ban
"Australia has seen a rise in gun crime over the past decade despite imposing an outright ban on many firearms in the late 1990s.

Charges for crimes involving firearms have increased dramatically across the island nation’s localities in the past decade according to an analysis of government statistics conducted by The New Daily. It found that gun crimes have spiked dramatically in the Australian states of Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, and Tasmania. In Victoria, pistol-related offenses doubled over the last decade. In New South Wales, they tripled. The other states saw smaller but still significant increases.

Experts said that the country’s 1996 ban on most semi-automatic firearms has actually driven criminals to those guns. “The ban on semi-automatics created demand by criminals for other types of guns,” professor Philip Alpers of the University of Sydney told The New Daily. “The criminal’s gun of choice today is the semi-automatic pistol.”

Of all the excuses for gun violence in the US, this has got to be the most stupid.

It simply points out that other countries have no where near the number of gun deaths as the US.

Its also a reminder that the only ones talking about banning guns in the US are the RWNJ idiots.

Clearly, reading comprehension is not your strong suit.

Firearm homicide went down.

So what are these gun crimes? Perhaps the crime is simply being in possession of gun, and this is reported as a gun crime, and this has gone up because it's harder to have a gun now.

Doesn't make Australia less safe.

figure_16.png

Assaults have been rising steadily, from before the gun ban and beyond.

This might be due to a rise in population.

Why do the democrats want to disarm you then? Obviously, so you could not defend yourself against their real interest group, terrorists and criminals, such this registered democrat was.

A lot of stats, and not much understanding.

The UK gun law that came in, wasn't designed to stop most gun violence. However there was a spike, and it was more to do with foreign gangs bringing a culture of gun violence to the UK. However, as you can see by the chart, the UK govt did something about it, as opposed to what happens in the US.

The first chart simply has third world countries with major problems, and then the US way ahead on gun murders. Only three cities in the US over 250,000 people have a murder rate lower than Canada's, and Canada's isn't low for a first world country. Only one city has a murder rate lower than most of Western Europe.

Murder rate by gun ownership graph means what? It's just dots all over the place. Meaningless really. It doesn't, for example, show which states have large cities or not, or where there are other factors involved.

The homicide rate in the US has been going down, but so too have the homicide rates in most western countries. You can try and link it to gun ownership, but if you actually spend more than three seconds on it, you'll realize that some individuals own A LOT OF GUNS, and so the number of guns goes up, but the number of individuals with guns doesn't.

Or you could just put up statistics you think look nice and not make much of a comment about then, and hope people are taken in.

Since no amount of evidence is enough to satisfy these loons, we can throw the regressive gun control theory to garbage can as unfalsifiable.

I didn't mention the US you did. Nice red herrinf

When you say "rise in gun crime" what crimes are you talking about and what is the rise?

I can say there is a rise in Shark Attacks when it goes from 3 attacks to 5.

Murders? Or....what?

Stats need to be taken in context. You can't just put up stats and say "look, this one statistic proves everything", it needs to be part of an argument, to provide evidence for your point of view, it needs to be discussed and you need to see whether it's valid or not.

You can't use the British gun control law to show that gun control doesn't work, simply because you have to understand that before the gun control law most British didn't have guns, and after they also didn't have guns.

Except if the stat is for a liberal regressive argument. Then just one single one is enough.

I would seriously like to have you explain you theory on how you get gun control = perfect solution out of all those stats. But I guess, when it's about disarming people, you don't need proof... Except if it's the government and Obama's security. They need all the guns they can get.

You can't get the perfect solution. I didn't say you could.

However I believe that the US with a murder rate of around 4.0 per year, compared to western Europe of around 1.0 or lower is far better, not perfect, just better, than the US.

According to this only 450 people die falling out of bed per year. Just sayin'.

This fails as a post hoc fallacy.

It is idiocy to infer that a rise in gun crimes means firearm regulatory measures ‘don’t work’ or are ‘unwarranted.’

Especially when you can see the same rise without gun control.

If gun control increases gun crimes, it doesn't work...

You can of course say it's not causation, but given that the same pattern is prevalent everywhere where gun control is enacted and no other cause has been identified, I call complete bullshit. You don't get to just assert that it works, you have to prove it. Even then, there is the 2nd amendment.

I agree that something perhaps should be done to keep guns out of the hand of suspected terrorists. Two FBI inspections should be enough... But to ban rifles from regular law abiding americans, that's bullshit.

Oddly enough falling out of bed is still way lower than gun deaths in your link. The one just below 'murder by gun' which is 'texting while driving' that has more then 1,000 less killed is against the law in many states. Just sayin'.
