The new paper makes up hypothetical particles and hypothetical states of matter for which there is no evidence. The new paper places more importance not on theoretical research, but on a possible engineering solution.
We have never observed these particles nor this state of matter. We've never seen any evidence they have ever existed. Nor have we ever seen any evidence of any particle or vehicle traveling faster than the speed of light through space.
These are notional concepts made up to make the theory work. It might work out. It might not. Those hypothetical states of matter might exist. They might not.
But the evidence overwhelmingly points to no.
The Alcubierre Drive is speculation backed by no evidence, and hypothetical particles and exotic states of matter for which there is no evidence. Math suggests that its possible these hypothetical particles and exotic states of matter *could* exist. But there's no evidence that they actually do.
Meanwhile, the speed of light through space being the same for all observers in all frames of reference is among the most experimentally verified measurements of science. It has been directly demonstrated literally 10s of thousands of times.
While these hypothetical particles and exotic states of matter have never been demonstrated once.
