The law restricts the sale and purchase of semi-automatic "assault weapons," including AR-15 and AK-47 rifles, and purported large-capacity ammunition feeding devices, which the law states is more than 10 rounds for long arms and 15 rounds or more for handguns. These magazines, though, are standard sizes for the gun industry, so the ban is not eliminating "large capacity" devices, but normal, everyday ones. The law also requires citizens who already own weapons and accouterments covered by the law to register themselves with the Illinois State Police by Jan. 1, when the law is set to take effect.
The left-wing, Democrat-controlled state legislature passed the bill and it was signed into law by Democrat Gov. J.B. Pritzker in 2022. The law was hastily passed after a maniac used a semi-automatic rifle to kill seven people and wound 48 during an Independence Day parade in the Chicago area town of Highland Park.

I wonder how many legal citizens are now going to be considered criminals if and when they do not register them in the insane state of ILLinois. The statist left drive for power & control is absolutely insatiable, likewise their drive for established necessary morality of any kind does not even exist. The first step towards regaining normalcy regarding morality in our USA is taking out the feds Department Of Education then returning education to the states where parental control has much more control over the curriculum process. Sure, lefty states would continue poisoning the minds of their children but constitutionally(morality) based states would benefit from a reduction in both crime & general debauchery overall. Blaming firearms for crime instead of blaming a lack of morality is like blaming life for death.

The ruling wasn't allowed to stand, SCOTUS just denied taking it before the case followed normal procedures and flowed upwards through the normal court system. It's allowing the courts to do their job. SCOTUS is the court of LAST resort after all other avenues have been exhausted.

The case has been officially appealed to the USSC; we'll see if they grant cert.
