As Trump pivots to Russia, allies weigh sharing less intel with U.S.

Some U.S. allies are considering scaling back the intelligence they share with Washington in response to the Trump administration’s conciliatory approach to Russia, five sources with direct knowledge of the discussions told NBC News.

The allies are weighing the move because of concerns about safeguarding foreign assets whose identities could inadvertently be revealed, said the sources, who included two foreign officials.

Every intelligence agency treats its commitments to foreign agents as sacrosanct, pledging to keep agents safe and shield their identities. Anything that jeopardized that obligation would violate that trust, former officials said, and that could lead some spy services to hold back on some information sharing with Washington.

The allies, including Israel, Saudi Arabia and members of the so-called Five Eyes spy alliance of English-speaking democracies, are examining how to possibly revise current protocols for sharing intelligence to take the Trump administration’s warming relations with Russia into account, the sources said.

What responsible government would not be reevaluating their intel sharing policy with the US now that we are no longer a trustworthy partner with trump in the Oval. Or for that matter with the people trump chose to lead our national defense agencies. Who could possibly have faith in any of them............besides Russia?
Yep, we're no longer an ally. We're just a transactional trading partner. We're the 7-11 convenience store of the world. That's it. Here's your receipt for the candy bar, sir. Now **** off.

And this is just the beginning. Do you think Hegseth's top people are going to trust him with everything? Will Gabbard's top people trust her with everything?

Nope. Of course not.

Those staffers are in impossible situations. They have to decide whether they have to protect their careers or put their country at risk.

As all the corruption of the demented LEFT gets further exposed, our local trolls cry Russia Russia Russia yet AGAIN.
The IRONY from these demented avenger subverted demoralized Stalinist Marxist Leninist zombie ASSHOLES is THICK.
Nothing but projection and gaslight theatre EVERY FREAKING DAY.
It's now a DECADE of this madness.
And, without an ounce of self-awareness, these zombies will continue spreading their DELUSIONS as they spiral down the drain.

Your article provides a thesis and then works overtime proving that their own headline is not true. That is truly brilliant work by NBC!

NBC reached out to foreign governments for comment (to their credit) on the story. You might want to consider no one wants to be on the record admitting to reviewing their intel sharing relationship with the US, for obvious reasons. Though I realize you've been conditioned to reject all news articles reflecting poorly on Dotard's decision to back Russia's position in the war with Ukraine.

Who chose their top people? They did!
You're saying Hegseth and Gabbard fired or demoted the top staff with the experience and knowledge to inform their decisions? Hmmmmm, why would they choose to weaken the nation by doing that? Wait........let me guess.........deep state.

That's definitely true.

I just hope there are enough decent people in the staffs.
I can't help thinking those people have been purged or have resigned.

I keep waiting for a headline that says,

As Trump Pivots to Russia, Allies Pour Dollars and Weapons into Ukraine, and Alert their Military to Prepare to Intervene with Decisive Force.

Doesn't take a lot of courage to whine about Trump all day.

LOL. It is the US who has the best intelligence. Do they really want the US to stop providing intelligence to them?

But it does take a lot of idiocy to defend him 24/7.

For better, or for worse, Europe is now on their own.
And so is the United States.
They have stood under our umbrella for 80 years and now they are on their own, kicked to the curb by a U.S. government that has become hostile towards democracy, instead preferring authoritarians and oligarchs as partners and allies.
Bull, every NATO member has contributed, bear in mind too there are no formal rules for exactly how much each should contribute and there never were, just guidelines, see what happens when you fall for trump's lies?

Also it was successive US administrations that wanted to expand NATO, Europe just more or less went along but nobody asked the US for an "umbrella" pretty much all NATO growth has been US driven, a key part of their eagerness for the Truman doctrine.

Pretending that the poor old USA has been bullied by the greedy scheming Europeans is about as stupid as it gets when it comes to being ignorant of history.

Other countries have allied with the US at the invitation of the US, they had been loyal and committed allies too for decades, just because one president springs up that hates alliances doesn't mean that all of those allies are somehow proven to be a problem, the US cannot be trusted yet for decades it was but no more.

You need to understand why trump hates NATO so much, I think it is because he hates being a member of a team, he can only function as a dominant bully and that's why he doesn't serve as an independent advisor of the boards of major corporations as most other successful business leaders do.

He's not a team player and so literally cannot function in a team, it his because of his ineptitude and petulance and lack of maturity that he's doing all this, no other reason, certainly nothing to do with "paying your way" as he keeps claiming.

I ask anyone here, any of you to give me an example of trump playing on a team, being an equal member among others, go on find that example - I'll be here.

They have to consider the possibility that every piece of intel shared with us could end up in the Kremlin.

That ought to make us safer huh?

When it comes to leftists, it's always what might happen (e.g. considering) or the present is decorated to suit a narration.

Good!

Trump should change the US contribution to zero dollars, then.
