I'm not for banning AR-15s or anything nationally, but I don't see what can be the rational or constitutional objection to nationally banning bump stocks.

Rational is why a bump stock is useful for a lawful purpose. Constitutional protections mean the govt cannot issue a blanket ban without legitimate reason to regulate, and probably a national ban on any class of firearm would be unconstitutional as "overbroad." There are mult reasons to need an semiauto rifile in rural areas, and not just for "fun."
