Hope you're OK. My point is that it looks like Omicron is a less virulent version of covid19. Scientists and doctors I have read say this is typical of a virus. It morphs from severe to less severe but becomes more infectious. The theory is that since viruses need a host, they always morph into a less severe version so they can infect more people and not die out for lack of hosts so quickly. As folks get and get over a virus (no matter how severe) they develop a strong immunity so, eventually that particular virus will subside however, it will always be replaced. This is the reason for the yearly flu shots.

We can discuss whether or not the REACTION to covid19 was appropriate, i.e. shutting down economies, countries, mandatory mask wearing, etc. But I'm sure we would differ because politics has taken over at this point which is also because information from WHO and the CDC is not based on hard scientific data but recommendations based on sometimes faulty data such as death counts, 'cases' that may or may not have resulted in full blown sickness, etc.

A friend of mine is a microbiologist, with a specialty in biowarfare. She says Omicron is a blessing, and that as soon as this surge is on the downhill side (which we are close to), everything should go back to 100% normal. It will basically be just another version of the flu, which you might catch every couple of years or so.

You have 18, million active cases. That's 5% of your population, and while it will hasten you achieving herd immunity, at what cost? Billions are being spent treating people who shouldn't be getting sick in the first place. Billions more in productivity is being lost to worker being out sick, being out in quarantine, or unable to work due to child care issues with schools being closed. Look at all of the flights that were cancelled because there were so many workers out sick with covid. These are economic costs.

And then I turn on my TV and there's a national college bowl game the TV on in Alabama as if none of this is happening.

'Cases' is a meaningless term because it includes asymptomatic cases. The CDC director finally admitted as much. Covid will be an endemic disease all over the world including Canada. The data is untrustworthy and deaths from covid and deaths with covid have not been separated out of the stats which the CDC director also finally admitted. Bottom line, IMO, Covid19 is on the way out and is being replaced by Omicron which is not much more than a cold and will result in herd immunity. Covid never was the existential threat that greedy, power drunk politicians tried to convince US it was.

I lived through the SARS outbreak in Toronto in 2002/2003, and we NEVER went back to the way things were "before".

The culture of going to work if you can get out of bed - ended. People who went to work sick, got sent home. Instead of being applauded for "toughing it out", they were nailed for endangering their coworkers. And people were very slow to get back into going out to restaurants or social gatherings. It didn't help that no concerts were being booked in Toronto or anywhere near us, didn't help.

As a citizen of a country which followed the Fauci advice from day one and continues to follow the Fauci advice, the policies and practises coming out of the CDC are not your problem.
