Normally I don't like race swapping but I feel like The Wiz is an exception to it due to the fact that it isn't The Wizard Of Oz. It's just a parody of The Wizard Of Oz. Oh and for the record I would HATE if they ever did The Wiz using white actors and actresses. This is my favorite song though as this is SO catchy!! 😁

It has been so long that I've watched that I can't remember.

In fact I can't remember what I have for breakfast.

I do remember a glimpse of a scene where MJ was singing and dance'n that I thought was cool.

I have a golden anniversary 50th edition premium fully restored BlueRay of the movie.

It was soggy cornflakes in pickle juice.

As to the Wiz, I have no idea. Only 'Wiz' I know is some wrestler who works for the WWE. Oh I'm sorry, he is called the 'Miz.' See, I don't even know that much.

"race swapping"?

WTF is that?

Of what?

Taking white roles and turning them black, but again I find this to be an exception since it isn't The Wizard Of Oz, it's just a parody of it.

"white roles"? What is a "white role"?

A role designed specifically for white people duh! However, don't forget, I don't like it in reverse either as I wouldn't like an all white The Wiz cast as they're supposed to be all black.

Think of it this way: What if they made a movie about George Washington. Washington was a white general. So would it make sense to portray him in a movie with a Latino, African or Hindu Indian?

Same with Wiz of Oz. It was written in the 20s by white people portraying white fictional characters to other white people. In the 1920s, audiences were probably 98% white.

So when a movie comes along using an actress who isn't just a little different but is DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSITE to the original story, one has no choice but to believe this was done deliberately to make a political or racial statement, which is not at all in keeping with the original story.

I actually read the actual book Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum before I ever saw the film.

Seriously, the range and opportunities out there for stories and roles is almost unlimited--- if someone wants to cast a film with blacks, why do they have to pick on stuff already done and written for a white girl and not simply write something fort blacks?

I suspect the real answer is that because they know it would not sell and would be a huge loss at the box office.

WOW...can you really tell the difference ?

I only watched it once. It looked really good. Essentially perfect. I have not tried to compare it to other versions. I suspect a regular BluRay of Wiz of Oz would look just as good. And it might be the 75th Annv., edition BluRay not the 50th.

I also have the original Disney Pinocchio on BluRay. It is practically the only Disney stuff I have. It too looks really really good, but then, when I originally saw it in the theater, I was very young and might not remember everything.

The charm in these movies is the skill at which Disney Studios was able to do analog animation in those days--- back then, Disney was the absolute state of the art.

I have over 1,000 DVDs that I am going thru to get rid of.

I don't have cable and have the same routine when I go to bed.

Watch a movie, than a Perry Mason and than sleep.

I buy those 50 / 100 DVD lots on ebay.

Do you notice any titles like "Caught from behind" or something similarly suggestive?

George was a real person.

Dorothy was not.

Or did you maybe think the wizard of oz was a documentary?

George was a real person.
Dorothy was not.

That is not the point and you know it. The Wiz of Oz was published by a white guy in the year 1900 about a time when simple white country people of Kansas encountered a tornado and were swept off into an adventure. The movie made on the book in the '30s came to the theaters about 30 years before all restrictions on blacks even voting were entirely removed and at a time when movie audiences were probably about 95-98% white. There is no question that the characters in the novel would have been white.

Substituting a black girl in there for Dorothy made absolutely no sense at all, historically, geographically, or any other way. Even today, Kansas is about 88% white or to a much lesser degree, hispanic.

Do you like only all-white or all-black movies, shows, plays, etc., depending on the context?

Or do you like entertainment with a variety of races as well?
