Any guitarists have an opinion on the Cordoba Fusion 12 acoustic?

My son is looking to upgrade and we went to Guitar Center yesterday. He thought he was going to get a Taylor or Martin but he liked the Cordoba acoustic/electric nylon string the best. Anyone familiar with it? It sounds great amplified or not.

Q~what kind of pickups amplify nylon strings Mike??? ~S~

I believe Fusion is one of three or four Cordobas made in China. That alone will steer me to other brands--there's just too many alternatives and good instruments out there. Some will modify it right out of box, which strikes me as really off. I am not changing something that I just bought. Makes no sense. I think their Traditional series is made in Spain, but I can't remember if I ever picked one up.

Basically a budget instrument.

Thanks for the feedback! He played a bunch of Yamahas, Taylors and Martins but he liked the Cordoba the best for ease of playing and sound. I'm a keyboard guy so I have no clue but it looks beautiful and has a clear, rich tone.

Should've went with a Taylor.

I've been picking on my 12 string lately just mainly to ease boredom. I love the sound of a 12 string, though.
Ultimately isn't choosing a guitar a personal feel and ear thing? He played 2 or 3 different Taylors and didn't like them as well as the Cordoba Fusion.

Yeah. Guess that's why I automatically popped off with my own bias.

Never really cared for nylon.

But, as you say, it's a personal preference.

It's always cool when I hear someone play a 12 string at an Open Mic. They have such a big rich sound!

I still stumble with a 12 string myself. But I like the sound of steel strings on em, so that's just what I generally reach for. As you said, it's just preference. I wasn't really knocking on the Cordoba. Guess I was just thinking on how I know pickups to generally process a nylon signal compared to steel.

Like I said in Sparky's response, I didn't even know pickups worked with nylon strings. But it sounded great through the amp.

Mike I have a Taylor Made with a Fishman pickup built in and I have a Fender Amp specific for acoustic guitar. It sounds great.

If you have the money that is the way I would go. The quality of a guitar is equal tone and power low to high. Some sound great on the high end (my Washburn with a brass kit). Some sound good on the low end (Yamaha's), and some sound good throughout their range (Martin, Taylor Made).

I have played for 50 years and played a lot of instruments. Very few are really good. I have never played a poor Martin or Taylor Made.

Thanks WQ, but as I just posted above he went the local guitarists' recommended model that they use. It has built-in Fishman pickups and it sounds awesome through an amp!

Mike, I have been playing a lot of piano lately....not very well. I have kind of put the guitar aside. Anyway, I wrote something using a weird mode of the of the harmonic minor. I thought I would write down the chord progression for you. Since you actually do play piano well I though you might have some fun messing around with it. Below is a Christmas tune on guitar I taped several years ago.

Happy Holidays.

Chord Progression: C Fm/C Db G Em Am Bb F/Bb C

Bbmaj7 Ab Gm Bb F C Dm7 G9 Bb Fm7 Bb C Fm/C Db Absus4 Fm Bb7 Cm7 G7 Am Bb F/Bb C

I'll definitely play with it. I won't listen to your take until I come up with something. :)
