P.S. If the boss knows what they are doing as far as the job is concerned and is good towards those that they work with, that right there in my opinion should be the only thing that matters.

I think it was a mistake for him to apply there in the first place and to decline it on the uncouth way he did… but not wanting to work for a firm because the boss has a particular cultural component isn’t an issue for me.

I’ve been out of college for more than 30 years and I’ve turned down several jobs, promotions, etc… because they would have required me to work directly for a female supervisor/manager. I didn’t know that when I applied, but as soon as I realized it, I removed my resume from consideration.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but what is your issue with female supervisors and managers? I've worked for a few who couldn't have been better. They knew how to do the jobs, and they were never once the kind of person who had to be on a power trip at all times.

I come from a very traditional family and am a strong believer in gender roles. Whether the women CAN carry out the role is less important to me than if they SHOULD be doing them.

One of the positions I turned down was very close to my dream job but I could not deal with the particular woman who would have been my boss. I gave them two other people who I thought would be good options and wished them well.
