Safe drilling areas?
You mean like the gulf of mexico?
Yes.
I suggest you actually read the Palin opinion. It is absolutely correct.
The disease of extremism that infects the American environmental movement has pushed common sense means of energy production to the boundaries of capability.
Offshore drilling in more shallow areas, which is highly restricted, would in this same case, resulted in the leak having been capped much more quickly, and a far less damaging spill taking place.
Add to the fact that we have millions of acres of land that could also provide substantial sources of energy, that are being regulated away and thus increasing dependence upon foreign sources of oil, and we see the madness of this nation's energy policy.
You see, we are NOT saving the environment by following environmental extremism in America, but just the opposite. That oil is being drilled far less safely in other parts of the globe, and then transfered via ship, (and ships account for far greater spills over time than is currently taking place in the Gulf) to America. So in effect, we produce more danger to the environment, more dependence of foreign oil, and produce LESS jobs her in America.
Environmental sanity must return to America, and oddly enough, this Gulf Oil spill will help to provide the incentive for just that result...
Because she's an idiot?
This woman I swear is dumber than my ex-wife who once said, not joking, that she thought our nation's capital, Washington, was in the state of Washington.
And yet, Palin is still Einstein compared to her fans...
Well, what does that say about YOU?
you married the ex-wife.
so just who is the "dumb" one.
oooopsi
Of course just two months ago, in a widely circulated missive, Palin attacked President Obama's plan to open up large swaths of the U.S. coastline to potential drilling for being too little, too late. "[L]et's not forget," she wrote, "that while Interior Department bureaucrats continue to hold up actual offshore drilling from taking place, Russia is moving full steam ahead on Arctic drilling, and China, Russia, and Venezuela are buying leases off the coast of Cuba."

There's over 3,500 oil and gas rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. If that many hasn't gotten us energy independance by now, the addition of more probably won't either.
And as for St Sarah, if she had an ounce of common sense she might realize that now's probably not a good time to be shooting her big mouth off about the virtues of offshore oil drilling.
That's if she had an ounce of common sense. . .
oh really, when is a good time by your standards.?
I guess we should JUST ALL shut up our mouths.

I don't see how she is wrong here. One can argue that you don't want offshore drilling off the coast of the US, but there are huge resivours of oil between the US and Cuba, and offshore drilling will happen in the gulf no matter what we say about it. The drilling will be done by the Russians and the Chinese, whose environmental records are such that BP would be considered a model of environmental good citizenship.
18 months from now, we will have great reefs of oils floating in from Cuba if Russian history is anything to go by. We can't stop it, but we can manage it better.
And the US does want gasoline in large quantities. We either produce it here, under sensible regulation, or it comes in from places like Iran and Saudi, and it funds psycho groups. You get to make Hobson's choice. It is not a fun, easy, or happy choice. But if we are going to continue to consume gasoline at the rate we do, then it is a choice we have to make.
Is this the money quote?

Where is she wrong?
Ugh.
Another Palin thread.

Forget things like energy and foreign policy. Why can't she just learn to keep her foot out of her mouth?
Huh? How do you think she got a job at FoxNews?
