In looking at the political implications of this horror show, one need only recall the 2008 Great Recession. The causes of that financial collapse — e.g., unregulated financial instruments, negligence from ratings companies, lender deception, the Federal Reserve’s failure to act — were complicated. Nevertheless, the politicians who resisted warnings (from then-Harvard professor Elizabeth Warren, among other people) and favored a Wild West deregulated financial industry have unique culpability. And the party in charge at the time — the Republicans — bore the brunt of the voters wrath at the polls. Do we imagine this domestic debacle will play out differently?

The short answer? No.

e.g., unregulated financial instruments,

Meh.

Nevertheless, the politicians who resisted warnings (from then-Harvard professor Elizabeth Warren, among other people)

Was she warning against letting people with low credit scores obtain mortgages?

and favored a Wild West deregulated financial industry

Banks weren't deregulated.

WITH THE TRUMP CRASH, 10 OF THE LAST 11 RECESSIONS, DATING BACK TO THE 1950S ALL OCCURED UNDER GOP PRESIDENTS...

EVERY GOP PRES SINCE TEDDY R HAS HAD A RECESSION.

3 CERTAINTIES, LIFE, DEATH, AND GOP RECESSIONS... THE PARTY OF TOTAL FAILURE.

So how's that Biden presidential campaign working out for you, Bunky?

Think he even has a shot at it? :auiqs.jpg:

Are there really people who buy liberal lies anymore?

You should be able to buy them wholesale, since there's an overabundant supply of them.

Unfortunately, there isn't much of a resale value to liberal lies.

The Washington Compost is fake news. And you're a fool.

This is an idiotic thread, that only a super partisan dickhead would start.
The idea, that this horror of a recession/depression that we will be entering, can be blamed on the fact that a certain political party is in the WH is astoundingly ignorant.
This is like blaming Jack and Rose for hitting the iceberg.

The recession was coming but instead of preparing for that as well Trump and GOP kept on pumping the economy. Borrowing a trillion a year in a boom is crazy and only makes a crash very hard and expensive. Basic Marco economics 101.

The tax cuts didn't pay for themselves and created a boom in stock buybacks rather than any meaningful job growth.

The pandemic which trump was also unprepared for even though he got warning (in this case he was the captain of the Titanic but with world class radar as well) but he still did nothing...

Trump tries to say none of this could be foreseen but it was and it continues to be...

But Trump isn't the only GOP falling asleep at the wheel:

Seriously a GOP governor only figured this out on Wednesday and he still thinks it is safe to leave churches open.

By the way Georgia is ranked 39th in states healthcare ranking

God help them...

Of course it won't play out differently, only that Trump will leave this country in worse economic condition then the idiot W. Bush did before him.

We started this millennia with a budget surplus, thanks to President Clinton, only to barely escape the smash and grab years of W. Bush, the smoldering wreckage of which was left at the feet of President Obama to repair, which he did an excellent job of doing, only to now again be facing yet another Republican administration that will grenade our economy to the point no one in the future can repair.

Two of the dumbest people ever to occupy the White House, W. Bush and now Trump, both adored and worshipped by the Republican base. Who said the Dumbing Down of America was deliberate and targeted? Oh yea, that was me.

Hear that? As of two minutes ago blaming entire political parties is a BAD thing. Doiubleplusungood.

It has always been a bad thing. The idea of blanket-blaming a political party is an Unthing that never happened. We have always been at war with Oceania. Ignorance is Strength.

Oh, come on.

This is a saying based on truth: Only the stupid never changes his opinion.

You have the absolute right to change your opinion one second later and 16 years later.

You discuss with others in base of their current opinions.

What you of the president said 16 years can be invalid if you and him think different today. No matter the reason, if you change your opinion, it's your last opinion the valid one, the rest of them were gone.

That's something he said. How you rationalize that is up to you.

To me, it looks like he's confirming his own opinion.
