I personally knew guys that ran speed boats into the Ten Thousand Islands back in the day. You don' twant to mess around in the Ten Thousand Islands. Even the Coast Guard didn't want to go in there. Before Satellite Navigation, people disappeared and were never found. All the time.

Ol' Totch Brown was known to smuggle in some weed from time to time.

Another guy I know/knew was an Offshore Boat racer. He usually went into the Ten Thousand Islands, too. I'd tell you his name but he might still be alive. He flew a P-51 at the Bay of Pigs. Totes Wild Man. Some of those Offshore racers will hit, and hold, 120 MPH. Choppers back then had trouble with that.

I recall one time, a "Mother Ship" got boarded by the Coast Guard several miles off the Fort Myers Coast and some dummie at one of the Radio Stations reported on it. Every person in the Area headed for the Beach including Yours Truly.

I left out the fact that the guys on the boat were frantically throwing tons, literally TONS of weed into the Gulf. And it was floating ashore down at the Beach. Bales. Loose, Tons of it.

Cops were pretty cool, they were just like, "Put it down and go home". I did.

The whole County was high for several Months after that

But that was back in the Day and it was weed and only weed. Smugglers have principles, too.
