The cost of housing in the SF Bay Area is substantial hiring than in most of other parts of our nation. The reason has nothing to do with liberals, Democrats, progressives or anything else hacks seek to scapegoat.

It has become the new norm that a home for sale in SF, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Contra Costa, Alameda and Marin will receive a number of offers above the asking price. Supply is low, demand is high and no Pol is responsible for this economic fact.

SF is 49 sq. miles. Most of it is developed, and there is no room to build. Apt. Units have been converted to Condos, and the morning and evening commutes are as chaotic as is the current White House. My home and our rental in which one of my sons and his family reside, have increased in value double figures for the past two years. The value of property has increased in the region enormously since the bubble burst, a result of the Great Recession.

• The #1 state that people are moving to is Vermont, #2 is Oregon.
  
• The tax rate for Vermont and Oregon is 10.3% making them the 39th and 40th highest taxed in the nation.
  
• California's tax rate is 11.0%, making it the 47th highest tax state. A bit higher than Vermont and Oregon but just barely.
  
• Property tax collections in CA per capita: $1,385 (22nd highest).

In summary, it doesn't appear that taxes are the driving force behind CA emigration. Also, high property costs are not the fault of CA property taxes but a product of the free market.

I've lived in CA and now live in TN.
Nashville has high housing costs too, because the supply isn't enough for the demand.
Go 50 miles North and the costs of housing are more affordable.

CA has a very low standard of living compared to TN.
That is why so many are moving here instead of to CA.
CA is scaring away people by the thousands.
Only two groups can afford to live their.....the poor and the rich.
