How is it pointless when unnecessary deaths are prevented? The question you should ask is will resident pay through tax increase to have the Guard 24/7? You could say there's the police. Problem is they are only effective if their hands aren't tied by bureaucrats. I don't mean open season to shoot people and get away.

Perhaps people should address the root of the problem. Which demographic is responsible for majority of the crimes in DC?

Because they could have implemented something that prevented deaths FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. Instead they did it for a month.

They spent all the money, all that effort and the outcome is "it's still the same".

The problem that people are talking about what it takes to reduce crime in the US. The politicians aren't interested. The people don't get heard.
